Helpdesk #05: Corsair Dominator 2x 2x2GB

So.... yay! My carepackage for my Erasmus trip to Denmark has arrived. One shiny new Toshiba Sattelite laptop (which is sweeeeeeet by the way), one Ikari Optical mouse, from SteelSeries (because touchpads make me CRINGE) and.... badumtish!

2x 2x2GB of Corsair Dominator memory modules! Yeah, you read it right, 8GB of 1066MHz DDR2 memory. (my Asus P5K motherboard is too ancient to support DDR3 :()

Anyway, yeah, a bit of bragging going on there, but there's actually a good reason for me to be writing this! A standard Dominator memory kit comes with... A Dominator Airflow module. This isn't a usual fit for anyone who has ever fiddled with memory modules, but meh.

My digital camera died a while back (yeah I know, am I unlucky or what?) so pics from my phone will just have to suffice!

So first up, installing the memory:

You insert the modules as normal (make it click) and then comes the hard part... The Airflow module. Each set of 2 memory modules comes with it's own Airflow module, but I only needed one.

First of, you connect the metal bits to the module with the screws.

Then you clip the metal bits over the white connectors on your memory slots.

Aaaaand you're done. :P

I was planning on making a proper tutorial for it with the pictures, but there's a really nice video on youtube, so here it is:

So yeah, this basicly completed my setup for the next few years, however, my 22" widescreen Samsung monitor is starting to die, so I bought a new one: An Iiyama ProLite 26" widescreen ;o)

Oh! And I also bought my first ever official operating system and office suite, Windows 7 and Office 2007! Windows 7 is sweeeet, almost everything works out of the box!

Pics of my new setup:
